Surgical Procedures

If you are scheduled for out-patient or in-patient surgery you will receive detailed instructions from our surgery coordinator. Below are a few general instructions for all out-patient and in-patient surgery patients (not applicable to in office procedures)

Diet before surgery

• Do not have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to your scheduled surgery time. If you eat solid foods within 8 hours of your procedure and/or drink any liquids, the procedure may be delayed or rescheduled to another day.

Remember to bring

• Health insurance card and photo ID

• Power of attorney or advance directive, if you have one

​

Do NOT bring

• Valuables such as jewelry, money, credit cards, wallets, checkbooks, etc.

• Do not wear any jewelry (even wedding bands must be removed before surgery)

• Do not bring any medications to the hospital unless instructed to do so

• Do not bring luggage or belongings into the Pre-Op area

If you are going home the same day of surgery

• You will not be allowed to drive yourself home. Your ride should be available at the time of discharge. 

• Discharge instruction will be given to you prior to discharge

• Please arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery for general anesthesia, or 2-3 hours if you have had sedation only.

Post Operative Appointment

• Call our office, 925-301-9875, at your earliest convenience to schedule your routine post op appointment with Dr. Friedman or Dr. Nat as our schedules fill up quickly.  Generally your appointment will be 2-4 weeks after surgery, unless instructed to schedule sooner. If you are experiencing any concerning post op symptoms please call our office immediately.
